I was very disappointed.
On the first use, the power supply failed dramatically with sparks and smoke. After 5 seconds of use it is now non-functional.
This product is not recommended.

It came in a nice little box (as opposed to the bag about which other customers complained). I only had it a couple days. I set it up to a hard disk to try to retrieve files. The "directions" which came with it stated the product would install itself for my system. Awesome idea considering I have a netbook and no CD drive. Turns out when I hooked up the entire thing nothing happened. I could hear the hard disk was on, but my computer did not recognize it. I tried it again the next day and after getting everything set up, the power adapter made clicking sounds. After that I could not get it to come on again. I returned it last week, and I have not yet received my money or any other type of response. I am going to try contacting them.

Price is nice, quality is poor. 3 weeks after the installation. The connector for the usb on the drive is lose, and now I would have to unplug/plug few time 'till it starts to read.

This product was easy to use and saved me more than $100.00 dollars when my computer no longer would boot up. With this product I was able to save all files on my old hard drive. This product makes your old hard drive act as an external harddrive. I have two other hard drives from old coputers that I can now get the information transferred and then use this drives as backup drives for my wife's and my son's computers.

i like the design of this external hard drive and the fact that its small and light weight. easy to transport and easy to install. also seagate has a website with customer service chat if you have issues, would def recommend this to someone just looking to backup files.

As soon as I plugged the power source into an AC outlet I heard a pop. With a multimeter I verified there was nothing on the 5v line or the 12v line... so much for quality assurance... I didn't want to deal with the hassle of a return so I just used another power source to test out a DVD burner. The USB->IDE cable works well with my DVD burner. Everything was plug and play and I did not have to install any third party drivers. I burned 4+ gigs of data onto a dvd with no problems. Other thoughts: the end of the data cable sticks out right next to the power plug on my DVD burner and it was a bit of a tight squeeze (I could see this being more of a problem on other devices).

This drive is great, I love the form-factor, the fact that it doesn't require a separate power cord, and
it was totally "plug-n-play" with absolutely no hassles.
